PAHAL Ek Koshish

About PAHAL

PAHAL — Participatory Action for Human Advancement & Learning — is a registered society which has worked with children, young people and communities across Uttar Pradesh and Punjab since 2004.

The word “pahal” denotes an initiative — a first step. The Society was so named in recognition that the initial step is the most difficult, and that it acquires meaning only when others continue it. This is the substance of its participatory method: PAHAL works alongside the communities it serves rather than delivering to them from outside.

What PAHAL works on

The work is organised across six areas: education; health and wellbeing; science, technology and innovation; shelter and basic needs; skills and livelihoods; and community development. These are not separate programmes but six routes to a single objective — a young person with greater opportunity at the conclusion than at the outset.
